Another round of movies

Road to Perdition
Only managed to see this recently. Thought I might not like it cause it was a highly dramatic thing but it surprised me - was very good. Very sad and touching especially I guess since its told from the kid's point of view. The story is not just narrated they have all the events occuring so its much better than if it was sort of told with too much focus on the drama and relationship. Having the violence and all that makes the emotions more understandable.

Crash
Realy good movie! Its realy about how all of us have prejudices at some level. Its not just about one community or people being wronged because of prejudices but more like how each others prejudices can affect each other. It also provides some hope in the way that even the seemingly highly prejudiced and violent characters do something good. Seems to show that prejudice is also something that depends on situations. Good thought provoking movie with good acting.

Syriana
Good actiony political movie. Ending realy surprised me though! But I must say I liked the movie all the more for that ending than if it had happened on a more positive note. Makes the story more beleivable and realistic that you can identify better with the entire thing, else it would have just become and idealistic thing.

Constant Gardner
I read the book as well before watching the movie and I wasn't realy taken by either. Found it rather pointless. The ending though sad was too idealistic. Would have made more sense for nothing to have happened at all. It was too much of a romantic nonsense - I guess the focus was mostly there and the rest of the thing was more or less lost. It was more like everything was done as a revenge for the wife than an actually trying to uncover the cover-up. Guess those going in for the human element may enjoy it better.

Munich
Long movie that just dragged on for too long. I wasnt sure what the point was. If it was supposed to be action or thriller - it just dragged on for too long that you were just like get on with it. The human element also seemed lost for it to be a drama. Ok fine the main character comes to realizations and stuff but again it seemed like what was the point. Maybe that was the essense of the movies story "what is the point of the initial killing or the revenge"? Seemed like it ended on that note. Saw the potential for it to be a good drama but it took too long to get there that I just felt fed up. On a side note I remeber seeing a movie when I was very young on the events at the Munich olympics - that was very sad - can't remeber the title though.

Inside Man
Interesting heist movie with a lot of twists and turns. It was something that kept you watching to find out what on earth is happening. Sort of like a mystery that you want to keep peicing together while the movie progresses, looking for clues so that you could understand what on earth was going on! Well made to keep the audience on their feet I think. The opening and ending soundtrack of the remixed Chaiya Chaiya was a surprise though - waited in the theatre till the entire thing ended just to listen to it with the surround sound. Unfortunately I saw a wierdly censored version where the bad language was censored off making it look a bit ridiculous.

V for Vendetta
Another superb movie. Didn't get to watch it when it first came out and only went 1 day before it left all the theatres and I'm realy glad I caught it. Fell in love with it right from the V speech (where almost every other word starts with a v). It was also something that left us confused through most of the movie (though in a good way) having a satisfaction when things were revealed at just the right moments. Only bad point I think was the romance - sort of pointless I thought - it seemed more better when they had a sort of V was just guiding and imparting his ideals on her. But anyway it was good - good action bits too and the whole concept was good with whole big brother/dictator/masses who see the fault but dont do anything. Guess the credit for the story is due to the graphic novel writer.

Home and Back; Friends and Family

Ok so I've been back at work for some two weeks now. Extreamely busy (which is unusual for me I guess) ever since I got back. Presentations, meetings, training, reports, designing a webpage, and running experiments the rest of the time!
Ok so it was elating to go back. Had a wonderful time at my home with my parents; But only problem was I had to go visit soo many people. Didn't know I had that many people to visit. My personal friends were few considering they are scattered far and wide now but most were family type people. When I finally did get to meet some of my friends it was under the worst of situations (a funeral!) Some of us had been planning and dreaming about meeting up and this was realy a damper on our moods. In fact the holiday went down hill from there. Slightly morbid. Call me detached but I just wanted to get away from it and come back to my life here - even with work and all its still less stressful.
Another thing that put me on a bad mood was an overdose of family. I never have much patience with family and traditions - especially when they tend to be hypocritical. Everyone says oh family is important and blood is thicker than water and blah blah but my belief is this: Family is just a bunch of people who are forced to be around you/interact with you because they were born into the situation - friends on the other hand are people who chose to interact with you - they dont have to like family but they do anyway. I feel that such an interaction of choice is more stronger than one in which you have been born into. I could be wrong but my experiences in life so far have only strengthened my beliefs.
