Enjoying your work or working to enjoy life?
A friend of mine said the other day that it is not realy necessary to find a job that you realy enjoy. The idea is to do something such that you have the resources to do the things that you enjoy. So if we were always were looking for a job that we would enjoy we would be forever starting afresh and then would be stuck at quite a low salary range for a while hence wont be able to do other things that we enjoy. Ok that was a bit confusing but well there is somewhat of a point there. Though i'm not so sure I agree with it. The big flaw I see in that argument is that most of us work 5 - 6 days a week till at least 6pm so unless we have brilliant time management skills how are we actually supposed to do all these things out of work? The maximum we'd get it one day per week and even if we do get to something we enjoy then i don't think its worth not enjoying you self the other 6/7th of the time. I mean I totally see it happening even with those around me - cannot go out on weeknights because you must come home and sleep to get up early the next day - even if you plan something for the evenings more often that not there maybe something to prepare for the next day and then thats gone - even on sundays whole day affairs cannot be planned casue that is the only day you have to tidy up your homes and do other domestic stuff.

Tamil Stories
Had a suddent urge to try reading tamil once again and as I was in the library, I thought I would go pick something up. What I realy wanted was the type of books that have religious stories which i had read as a kid, but unfortunately there were two racks of books in the childrens section and I couldnt read the title fast enough to find such books. Plus you can't realy search on the online catalog either cause it would be a Tamil title written in English and I could never get the spelling right. My friend was no help and kept saying I should start small with those picture books that have one liners at the end - huff. Anyways ended up picking up Bharathiyar's stories which I figured were the next best thing. Went home and managed to read a couple before I got tired. Ha totally forgot that they used to come with "the moral of the story" bit at the end.

I don't like AirCons
Because despit living in an equatorial/tropical country whose tempreture probably never goes below 28 degrees I own a few jackets, jerseys, windbreakers, you name it and wear them at least for more than 12 hrs everyday!!! It starts in the morning with the bus which is sometimes so cold that my breath starts misting. Then we come to work which is passable for the first hour and then I need to put on a sweater. Some of th labs are colder though so you need a good jacket as well to keep warm plus frequent breaks to go thaw yourself. Then after work I step into freezers masquerading as lecture theatres. I get it that the temperature outside is hot during the day but can't we just maintain the rooms at around 25 degrees or so which is just pleasant instead of going down to 18 or less. The problem with Aircons is not only the temperature they also tend to reduce the humidity hence I'm perpetually thirsty and my eyes skin and hair feels dry all the time. But sometimes I think i'm the only one in all this dislike. Luckily for me at least the Aircons in our appartment are kept off under the guise of saving electricity so at least I have a safe haven.
Wasted Smiles
People who are blessed with nice smiles should seriously smile more often. Why am I saying this well cause there is this guy I know for 3 months now and in that time I have never seen him smile - always looks like the world is resting on his shoulders. And then one fine day he smiled and I couldnt recognize the face I saw - utterly transformed - had dimples too. And it makes me wonder, if such smiles were given out more often it would make others smile too.
I don't understand when people who know you refuse to acknowlege you when you see them in passing somewhere else. Its also kind of embarrasing for people like me who would give them a smile and then see that its not returned - now I have taken to giving half smiles and go the full length only if the other person looks like they are going to return it.
